Rate-limiting: The transmetalation step of the Sonogashira coupling reaction is established as the rate-limiting step. This cross-coupling is demonstrated to be a Pd-catalyzed and Cu-catalyzed synergistic process, which exhibits a first-order kinetic dependence on both the [Pd] and [Cu] catalysts.

ABSTRACT: Insights toward the Cu-catalyzed C-C coupling reaction were investigated through operando IR and in situ XANES/EXAFS. It was found that the Cu(I)-complex formed from the reaction of CuI with β-diketone nucleophile was liable under the cross-coupling conditions, which is usually considered as active catalytic species. This labile Cu(I)-complex could rapidly disproportionate to the spectator Cu(II) and Cu(0) species under the reaction conditions, which was an off-cycle process. In this copper-catalyzed C-C coupling reaction, β-diketone might act both as the substrate and the ligand.

We Won the Third Postgraduate Badminton Match of CCMS!

Prof. Lei’s team won the Third Postgraduate Badminton Match of CCMS(College of Chemistry and Molecular Science, Wuhan Univ.) on Dec. 9th, 2012.

The Third Postgraduate Badminton Match of CCMS started at 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 9th, 2012. There were 16 teams in all from different laboratories participating in this match. All the athletes showed a spirited and highly motivated state during the whole match, which made this match very wonderful and worth of viewing.

The match started at 8:30 a.m. During the Group Stage, we accounted with a very strong team and a relatively weak team. After an intense race against these two teams, we beat them all and successfully qualified ranking top of the group. During the rematch at afternoon, we overcome all the difficulties in the way by virtue of our teammates’ tacit cooperation and exquisite skills, and finally beat all the other seven teams successfully winning the championship. This match not only motivated our athletic enthusiasm, but also enhanced relationships around each other.

2012化院师生羽毛球赛活力开打 雷爱文老师团队获冠军

      12月9日上午9点整,我院2012年第三届研究生师生羽毛球比赛在风雨操场活力开打,来自不同实验室共16支队伍参加了比赛,参赛选手们精神饱满,朝气蓬勃,展现了我院师生们的昂扬风貌。

      本次比赛共设混双、男双、女双三个项目,采取抽签淘汰制。在院研究生会主席钟莹的简短发言及裁判员代表、运动员代表宣誓后,比赛正式开始。本着“友谊第一,比赛第二”的精神,整场比赛在有序和谐的氛围中进行。参赛选手们认真准备,积极应战,经过上午的一番激烈角逐,共有8支队伍出线:童华、胡继明老师实验室;曹余良老师实验室;李振、秦金贵老师实验室;雷爱文老师实验室;艾新平、金先波老师实验室;彭天佑老师实验室;罗运柏、洪昕林老师实验室;黄卫华,谢敏老师实验室。

      在下午的复赛中,各支队伍积极拼抢,精彩的拉球、有力的扣杀、此起彼伏的比分让比赛精彩纷呈。经过层层角逐,成功晋级四强的队伍有:童华、胡继明老师实验室;雷爱文老师实验室;艾新平、金先波老师实验室;罗运柏、洪昕林老师实验室。紧接着,雷爱文老师实验室的选手与艾新平、金先波老师的选手展开激烈的夺冠之战。过网、扣杀、长吊、边线球,战况激烈,精彩纷呈,赛场上选手们挥洒着青春与汗水,享受着比赛的乐趣,迸发着对运动的热情,选手们高超的球技博得了同学们的一片喝彩。最后,雷爱文老师的队伍凭借其队员们的默契配合与精湛球技荣膺桂冠!

      赛后同学们纷纷表示,这场比赛使选手们获得了展示运动才能的机会,还提高了大家的运动兴趣,鼓励大家积极投入到运动中。无论是胜出队伍的高兴合影留念,还是出局队伍商量着今后实验室里要多开展的体育锻炼,都使实验室成员们之间、导师与学生们之间产生了更强的相互作用力,成为一个整体。

      本次比赛充分展示了我院师生积极向上、齐心协力的精神风貌,丰富了我们的业余文化生活,为实验室里的科研生活添加了亮丽一笔。

Doctoral Dissertation Defense: Liqun Jin & Yue Weng

Two excellent representatives of female Ph.D candidates in our lab gave their doctoral dissertation defenses on Dec. 5th, 2012.

The chairman of the dissertation committee is Prof. Meixiang Wang (Tsinghua University), and other four members are Prof. Liuzhu Gong (University of Science and Technology of China), Dr. Sanzhong Luo (Research Fellow of Institute of Chemstry, Chinese Academy of Science), Prof. Jingui Qin (Wuhan University) and Prof. Chunjiang Wang (Wuhan University).

First, Ms. Liqun Jin presented her work with the title of “Investigation of Some Important Physical Organic Questions in Transition-Metal-Catalyzed C-C Bond Formations”. She mainly used in-situ IR as the tool to reveal the elementary reactions involved in coupling reactions, with transition-metal-catalyzed oxidative coupling as model reactions.

Then Ms. Yue Weng presented her work with the title of “Insights Toward Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Csp-Csp Coupling Reaction Inspired by Kinetic Studies”, demonstrating an efficient Pd-catalyzed highly selective Csp-Csp cross-coupling reaction between terminal alkynes and 1-bromoacetylenes. Due to a two-year experiment in the United States in 2007-2009, the dissertation also involves the work she had done abroad.

After the presentation, Liqun Jin and Yue Weng answered the questions asked by the dissertation committee members and students.

 

Prof. Meixiang Wang and Prof. Liu-Zhu Gong Visited Our Lab

Prof. Meixiang Wang  (Tsinghua University)  Prof. Liu-Zhu Gong(University of Science and Technology of China) visited our lab on 5th.Dec. In the afternoon, they gave us two wonderful lectures  respectively. Prof. Wang’s lecture was entitled with “Recent Advances in Supramolecular Chemistry of Heteracaclixaromatics: Understanding of Anion-лInteractions and Copper-Catalyzed Arene C-H Bonds Activation”, and Prof Gong’s lecture’s title is “Organocatalysis Combined with Metal Catalysis”. After the lecture, they also discussed several questions with Prof. Aiwen Lei and students. We really learned a lot from Prof. Wang and Prof. Gong’s lecture. At night, Our students had a  deep discussion about their works. We really appreciated Prof. Meixiang Wang and Prof. Liu-Zhu Gong’s kind discussion and good suggestions.
